View > Change View Port

The view port is a rectangular region visible in the "LANDSCAPE" or "VIEW" window. It can be less than or equal to the boundaries of the Landscape (.LCP) File.

Changing the view port is similar to zooming but a zoom window is for temporary viewing. You cannot query the fire or landscape, identify an attack, or utilize any FARSITE features in a zoom window. All FARSITE features are available in the view port no matter what it's size.

Selecting the View > Change View Port command brings up the "Change View Port" dialog box. This command can also be accessed by right clicking in the "LANDSCAPE" or "VIEW" window and selecting Change View Port from the shortcut menu.

The "Change View Port" dialog box presents numerous ways of changing the view port. All of the methods graphically show the extent of the current view port in the center of the dialog box as well as the coordinates of the LCP Boundary and View Port. The colored areas show the extent of the Landscape (.LCP) File, red being the current view port while blue shows the portions of the landscape outside the view port. The default view port is the entire landscape, when changed the view port can be saved with a Project (.FPJ) or Bookmark (.BMK) File.

Using the Sliders

You can independently move any of the north, south, east, or west edges of the view port with the N, S, E, W sliders.

The Zoom Window Button

If you have a active zoom window, clicking the Zoom Window button will set the view port to the extent of that active zoom window.

The Max Button

Click the Max button to return the view port to the full extent of the Landscape (.LCP) File.

The Fire Button

The Fire button will change the view port to the extent of the current fire perimeter.

Note that because of the way FARSITE models barriers, they are assumed to be part of the current perimeters. In other words, if a barrier extends beyond the current fire perimeter the Fire button will change the view port to the extent of the fire perimeter and the barrier.

The In and Out Buttons

Each click of the ->In<- or ->Out<- button moves all the view port edges "in" or "out" a constant amount. These two functions can also be accessed by right clicking in the "LANDSCAPE" or "VIEW" window and selecting Viewport In or Viewport Out from the shortcut menu.

When you are satisfied with your changes to the view port, click the OK button and the "LANDSCAPE" or "VIEW" window will be redrawn, including all perimeters, barriers, attacks, etc. within the new view port. The scale of the new view port is dependant on the space available in your FARSITE window.
