View > View Landscape File

You can view your Landscape (.LCP) Files before creating a FARSITE project with this command. This command is handy for checking landscapes before you have had a chance to build the required ASCII text files needed for a project.

The Landscape (.LCP) File opens in a "VIEW" window where you can query the landscape to check the validity of your GIS themes used in the Landscape (.LCP) File. The status bar at the bottom of the "FARSITE" window displays VIEW MODE when using this command. If your landscape is displayed for a simulation the status bar would indicate NULL MODE.

A "Simulation Legend" window also appears where you can modify the appearance of your displayed landscape by;

You can also view raster or vector files in the VIEW MODE by using the View > View Raster File and View > View Vector File commands.

You cannot use any of the Simulate > Modify Map commands while viewing a Landscape (.LCP) File in this VIEW MODE. However the Output > Zoom and View > Change View Port commands work identical to their use in NULL MODE.

To Open a 2D Window

To open a 2D "VIEW" window select the View > View Landscape File (.LCP) > 2D Window command and select a Landscape (.LCP) File from the "Load Landscape File" dialog box that appears. Clicking the Open button displays the selected Landscape (.LCP) File with the default fuels theme.

To Open a 3D Window

A 3D window can only be opened when a 2D "VIEW" window is already open or by opening both windows at the same time. Open a 3D view window by selecting the View > View Landscape File (.LCP) > 3D Window command, a wire frame window and 3D toolbar that you use to orient the 3D landscape is displayed. This is the same process used by the Output > Three-D command.

Opening Both View Windows

Selecting the View > View Landscape File (.LCP) > Both command opens a 2D "VIEW" window and a wire frame window. Use the 3D toolbar to orient the 3D landscape just as you would with the Output > Three-D command.

To close the view windows use the View > Eliminate 3D Window or View > Eliminate 2D Window commands for the appropriate  "VIEW" window. The boxes in the upper right corner of the "VIEW" and "Simulation Legend" windows have been disabled.

Copying and Printing Landscapes

"VIEW" windows can be exported to a bitmap (.BMP) file or the clipboard by clicking the right mouse button on the 2D or 3D "VIEW" window and selecting the desired output from the shortcut menu.

Selecting Write Bitmap to File brings up a "Save As" dialog box, then navigate to the desired folder. Name the file, FARSITE will add a .BMP extension, and click the Save button. The bitmap (.BMP) file can now be edited in a image processor (Microsoft Paint, Photoshop, etc). Select Copy Bitmap to Clipboard to place the image on the clipboard, which can then be pasted into a image processor.

Because of technical difficulties a direct print option is not available. You must print the bitmap (.BMP) file from an application other than FARSITE.
